Auckland Zoo - Community

We have been looking at structures, and ways to make fun.

Today we were at the Zoo, my favourite space was Africa because the colors and the vibe it gives me is so peaceful. My favourite animal is a Lion because the lion is courageous, strong, powerful, a leader, has many talents and is the king of the jungle.

Next time I would like to visit the nocturnal animals to New Zealand because we did not have enough time to see them.

Oobleck or Putty for a foundation

What makes a good structure?

We compared Oobleck and Putty for a building.
When I  touched the Oobleck my hand slowly sunk right down to the bottom of the container, when I touched the Putty my hand pressed down through it.
When I squeezed the Oobleck it felt like hard playdoh, when I squeezed the Putty it looked for a way out of my hand and oozed out.
When I poured the Oobleck it looked like rain drops dripping down windows, when I poured the Putty it was moving to the other end of the container and it was moving ten times slower than a snail.
When I punched the Oobleck it did nothing and kind of hurt my hand, when I punched the Putty it just stuck to my hand.
When I  pressed the Oobleck into a ball it crumbled, when I pressed the Putty into a ball it did nothing.
and what happened when we spread it out.

The legend about the Rhino

One hot, bright, sunny day a Rhino was dragging himself through the desert trying to find some water and grass. “Wow I finally found it, I finally found a Savanna with water and a big lovely patch of grass!!”
But when he bent down to get a drink of water, a giant cage fell on top of him trapping his small stubby horn in between mans bars.

The Rhino tried to escape but he just couldn't so he kept trying to escape.” It's no use I'm gonna be stuck here forever and die with my horn in mans cage.”

Suddenly when the Rhino leaned back his horn slipped out of mans bars. But the Rhinos horn started swelling up and it ended up gigantic. But by the time Rhino got out of the cage, man had already fled off.

So now Rhino hunts everyday trying to get revenge on man and hides in the shadows of the humongous jungle.

Bunny/Rabbit masks and research

We are learning about the Zoo animals so I am researching about bunnies and rabbits and what are the differences between wild, feral and domesticated rabbits.
I found it hard to search up some of the activities because I didn't know what to type in the text box.
Next time I would like to learn about a different animal, what is the difference between two types of the same animal.

Writing Dialogue

We are learning how to use dialogue so we can use it in our stories, we are learning how to use speech marks and other punctuation.
I found it easy to complete this, I use speech marks all the time in my stories so it was very easy.
Next time I would like to learn how to use more dialogue in my speech and in stories.

Maori Language Week - Ta Moko

1 . Looked at pictures of ngā To Moko.
2 . Looked at the meaning in the Ta Moko patterns.
3 . Traditionally Ta Moko was made with a chisel.
4 . Ta Moko starts out small and grows.
5 . The females usually only have their chin done.

I found it a little bit annoying when I was drawing my To Moko because I liked three but I ended up picking this one.
Next time I would like to do different designs and different cultures so and I would really like to do my culture.

The Epic Race.

CLAP! The bangers went off I ran as fast as Usain Bolt. Reremoana was in front of me, suddenly Zaleen passed me I thought to myself, “Oh no Zaleen passed me I need to run faster!!” After a while I passed her. I tried to catch up to Reremoana but she was too fast.

I got to the hill. “Ugh this hill is so steep I don’t want to run anymore!” I said while moaning. I sprinted to the gates. “GROWL” I thought to myself “What was that noise?!!”

I looked behind me and saw a humongous beast! It had sharp claws, spots everywhere, it had super long whiskers and fluffy fur. I ran as fast as I could but it was no use the beast was too fast. I got to the field and ran all the way to the 2nd paddock then I jumped the obstacles. I saw Reremoana in front of me running to the finishing shoot, the beast was still behind me and it was getting closer and closer. “Clip clop” a Gazelle popped out from behind a tree. The beast chased after the gazelle and suddenly the animal control grabbed the beast.

I tried to catch up to her and at the last minute she tripped, “Ouch it hurts so much!” I thought, “thank god I can finally beat her once and for all!!” I sprinted to the end and got into the final shoot and I won!

We waited for Miss Castle to call out the year 6 winners and it was finally our turn. “In third place is Zaleen, in second place is Reremoana and in first place is Amelia!” We collected our awards and went back to the gazebos.

Miss Kereopa loudly read out the house points. “Okay so in fourth place was Rimu, in third place was Totara, in second place was Kauri. So the winning house was Pohutukawa!!!” After that we all went back to class for lunch.

We are learning how to write stories on cross country and sometimes use our imagination.
I found it hard to use my imagination and figure out how the animal got away because I dont really like cross country.
Next time I would like to make a better story and use more punctuation, metifors, similies and speech.
